About Teaching and Learning Capture
Teaching and Learning Capture (TLC) is here at St Mary's now. This means AV equipment with recording capabilities (camera and microphone) have been installed in many fixed teaching rooms to allow teaching sessions (e.g. lectures, workshops, seminars, assessment etc.) to be captured by audio, video and/or screen using the Panopto software. These rooms are setup for manual recording i.e. an academic will have to start the Panopto recorder from the PC desktop to initiate video and audio capture in the room.
TLC is designed to aid revision, complement note-taking and reinforce certain topics. It is to supplement students' learning and not a substitute for attending classes. Academics will decide what sessions will be captured as not everything will be captured. So students' attendance is still essential.
Panopto allows students to search for spoken words in captured session, use automated captioning and make notes. Students will be able to stream or playback the captured content on Moodle or Panopto web but they can download for offline viewing in the Panopto app only.
